Description
The official history of Arsenal Football Club.

Arsenal Football Club was established in 1886 by a group of workers at the Woolwich Arsenal Armament Factory. They started out as Dial Square, then became Royal Arsenal and finally joined the Football League in 1893 as Woolwich Arsenal. In 1915, Arsenal were voted into the First Division and have remained there ever since.

In the 1930's, legendary manager Herbert Chapman instigated a golden period that included five League Championships and two FA Cups. Chapman's reign was ended by his death in 1934 but George Allison took over, bringing more success to Highbury.

After the 2nd World War Tom Whittaker took the Gunners to League Championships in 1948 and 1953, and also won the FA Cup in 1950. A fallow period then gripped Highbury until the appointment of Bertie Mee as manager in 1966. Under Mee Arsenal lifted the European Fairs Cup in 1970 - the club's first honour in 17 years. This was followed by the landmark League and FA Cup 'double' in 1970/71.

The 1970's and early 80's featured three consecutive FA Cup Finals under Terry Neill's management and the club also reached the 1980 European Cup Winners' Cup Final.

In 1986 George Graham joined as manager of the club. Graham led the team to six trophies in eight seasons, including the momentous 1988/89 League Championship win at Anfield.

A brief management spell from Bruce Rioch followed Graham's departure, before Arsenal's first ever foreign manager arrived in 1996 - Arsene Wenger.

In 1997/98, the club achieved a second League and FA Cup Double. This season also included Ian Wright becoming the club's record goal scorer. Wenger continued to build a world-class squad and in 2001/02 the Gunners achieved their third League and FA Cup Double, remaining unbeaten away from home in the Premiership and finally clinching the title against Manchester United at Old Trafford. This followed the FA Cup victory over Chelsea at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

This Official History DVD concludes with Arsenal historically retaining the FA Cup, defeating Southampton in the club's third consecutive appearance in the Final.
