Matt Hayes is widely regarded as one of the the best all-round anglers in Britain and Mick Brown is known to be the predatory angler with an excellent knowledge of UK fishing sites. Join them both on this, their latest challenge, as they travel across England and Wales to bag some truly monster fish and break many of their own personal bests, catching some of the biggest fish of their careers. Meeting some of the current record holders along the way, Matt and Mick learn more about the fish they are hoping to catch and when and how each record was achieved.

Matt Hayes Record Breaking Fish - Mirror Carp, Barbel and Pike (Eps 1-3):
In this volume Matt and Mick fish for mirror carp on Monument Lake in Shropshire, where Mick lands a personal best with a whopping 44lb 2oz mirror carp. They also go barbel fishing on the Radwell and Sharbrook stretch of the River Ouse in Buckinghamshire, where the current barbel record of 19lb 6oz was caught. Although not able to beat that remarkable catch, Mick manages to break his own personal barbel record with an impressive 11lb 1oz catch.

The boys then take a boat out on the Llandegfedd Reservoir in Wales to fish for pike. It was 12 years ago that the record pike was caught here, weighing in at 46lb 13oz.

Will Matt and Mick be able to catch anything of this staggering proportion - just wait and see!

Matt Hayes Record Breaking Fish - Common Carp, Chub and Rainbow Trout (Eps 4-6):
In this volume Matt and Mick go carp fishing in Acton Burnell, Shropshire, where they catch a common carp weighing 20lb. Nowhere near the British record of 60lb, but a big one all the same. On to Dorset, and at Throop Fishery after a disappointing start, the boys each get a personal best, Matt bagging a barbel and Mick a chub. At Avington Trout Fishery, they use a selection of different flies and are rewarded by catching numerous big trout. But did they get the rainbow trout they were after?

Matt Hayes Record Breaking Fish - Roach, Perch and Zander (Eps 7-9):
In this volume Matt and Mick go course fishing for bream and roach at Llandegfedd Reservoir in Wales. They are highly privileged as they have been given special permission to fish for these species on this water, and are the first ever to do so. However, it's Matt's personal best hybrid that steals the day, which he firmly believes would have been a record breaker if caught in Ireland.

Lots of small perch are all they can bag on the Thames near Henley, but moving on to Grafham Reservoir, they fish night and day and, although unsuccessful with their intended zander, they do catch lots of pike and Matt picks up a 2lb perch.

Matt Hayes Record Breaking Fish - Barbel, Sea Trout and Crucian Carp (Eps 10-12):
In this volume Matt and Mick hunt for chub and barbel on the River Stour in Dorset and both have spectacular success catching some magnificent fish. Mick fly fishes at night on the River Towey in Wales and is absolutely thrilled when he catches his first night-time sea trout. Matt also catches a personal best of 4lb 8oz.

Moving on to the Summer Pitt at Yately, the boys fish for crucian carp, Matt opting for the pole fishing technique and Mick trying his hand at float fishing. Mick's technique wins the day as he catches a personal best, weighing in at 3lb 5oz.

Matt Hayes Record Breaking Fish - Pike, Rudd, Grayling and Tench (Eps 13-15):
In this volume Matt and Mick go after river pike, fishing on the River Wye. Using float and jerk techniques, the boys fish well into the night and Mick's hard work eventually pays off when he lands a pike in the dark! Then it's on to Horseshoe Lake in Gloucestershire in search of tench and rudd. After a very difficult stalking session, Matt reels in a personal best rudd at 3lb 2oz, very big by today's standards.

Finally, on the Dorset Stour after a good bag of chub and pike, hopes are failing for a grayling, so an urgent trip across country to the River Test is made. Will their patience be rewarded?
