Description
The Official film of the 1999 Open.

In 1999 the Open Championship returned to Carnoustie in Angus for the first time since Tom Watson's play off victory in 1975. With its awesome length, thick rough, and narrow fairways, Carnoustie once again proved itself as the most difficult venue on the Open rota, and provided one of the most astonishing finishes ever seen.

Paul Lawrie may have been the first Scottish champion since Sandy Lyle in 1985, but the 1999 Open will be remembered for the incredible capitulation of Frenchman, Jean Van de Velde, on the final hole. Needing just a double bogey six for the Championship - he took SEVEN!

This film looks back at all the drama of the Championship; how Carnoustie humiliated some of the greatest golfers in the world, the challenges of Tiger Woods and Greg Norman, and the final day when the Claret Jug seemed to be heading across the Channel until the very last moment.

It may have been the Open that was lost rather than won, but nobody who saw it will forget the 1999 Open Championship.
