Description
Russian revolution and civil war were major watersheds of the 20th Century. Now for the first time, the story of this blood-soaked time can be told - in colour.

This award-winning series, first screened on Channel 5, chronicles the events leading up to the infamous revolution of 1917. The merging of archive footage with the carefully choreographed reconstructions makes a fascinating and instructive programme of the struggle that was to decide the future of Russia.

Episode 1 - Freedom and Hope:
A demonstration about breed becomes a revolution and brings about the abdication of the Emperor. The sailors of Kronstadt help Lenin take control but when he loses an election he closes the democratic assembly and creates a police state.

Episode 2 - Fear and Paranoia:
Lenin becomes paranoid and his desperate policies in the brutal civil war bring the country to its knees.

When the sailors of Kronstadt condemn Lenin's actions, he sends in the Red Army for the final battle of the revolution.
