Description
Never so Close!

The '89 Tour, was, by general consent, the best race for many years. The real battle of the Tour was between Laurent Fignon, recapturing form, and Greg LeMond, back after a shooting accident. Whilst they were both expected to do well, no one could have predicted the events surrounding the final time trial.

After 21 stages and 3,250 km the race was to be decided on the final stage - the 24.5 km time trial from Versailles to Paris which saw American Greg LeMond fight back from a 50 second overall deficit on the leader, Laurent Fignon, and finish eight seconds ahead. The final margin, if you can call it that, was the smallest ever in the history of the Tour de France!
