The official film of the 2000 USPGA.
The 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla will be remembered as one of the most compelling events in golf history. Tiger Woods, fast becoming a legend, ran away with the US and British Opens and was heavily favoured to do it again in the PGA Championship. Instead he got a dramatic run for the wanamaker from an unexpected and unintimidated source: little know veteran Bob May.
Woods birdied the last two holes to force a play-off with the upset-minded May, after both scorched the back nine with five-under-pars 31's. In the ensuing three hole play-off, Woods managed to overcome exhaustion and the tenacious May to become the first man in more than 60 years to win back-to-back PGA Championships.
Watch 24 year old Woods make history by becoming the only man besides Ben Hogan to win three professional major championships in a season. It was his fifth major championship, encouraging experts to upgrade his chances of breaking the great Jack Nicklaus' record of 18, once thought unreachable.
The first two rounds were memorable for the pairing of Nicklaus, the best of the 20th century, with Woods, the superstar for the 21st century and successor to Nicklaus's pre-eminence. They had never been paired competitively and probably never will be again as Nicklaus was concluding his emotional farewell tour of the major championships. You'll see and hear the fascinating interaction between them.
After the 36 hole drama unspooled, the second strongest field ever assembled in professional golf produced one of the most exciting finishes in history, with the unheralded May pushing the world's No. 1 to the limit.
A special bonus to the official video is an exclusive interview with Tiger Woods following his unforgettable victory.
