The Official film of the 1991 Wimbledon Championships.

The People's Championships records the extraordinary events of Wimbledon 1991, when heavy rain forced organisers into scheduling matches on the middle Sunday for the first time ever.

Among the highlights from that day are show court appearances of stars like Jimmy Connors and Gabriela Sabatini who inspire a Mexican wave of enthusiasm from the fans who queued all night to see them.

His clothing for once muted, the increasingly popular Andre Agassi lets his tennis do the talking, before crashing out of the big-serving David Wheaton. Other seeds too, fall on stony ground and when the inexperienced Michael Stich earns his first singles final apperance by beating the defending champion Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker looks set to claim a fourth Wimbledon title in an all-German final. Stich has other ideas.

Martina Navratilova is the defending champion deposed in the women's singles, this time in the quarter-finals by Jennifer Capriati. Gabriela Sabatini's re-vamped game is too strong for the talented teenager but not the powerful groundstrokes of the rejuvenated Steffi Graf whose 6-4, 3-6, 8-6 win brings the 10th Grand Slam singles title of her career.

The Official Film of the 1991 Wimbledon Championships records the best of the tennis from an unforgettable fortnight.
