The 2006 Tri-Nations commenced on 14th October with Australia avenging last season's 24-0 final defeat by New Zealand with a 30-18 victory over the Kiwis in Auckland. The return a week later in Melbourne was a much closer affair, with New Zealand leading by seven points with just eight minutes left, only for the Kangaroos to bounce back with two late tries. The final weekend of the month saw Great Britain make their bow in the competition. But the Lions were edged out 18-14 in Christchurch, although controversy was later to cloud that victory for the hosts.
Then, on 4th November, Great Britain rocked the world champions with a 23-12 victory. But that was as good as it got for the Lions. They slumped to 34-4 humiliation in Wellington on the following Saturday and their dream of making the final ended in Brisbane as Australia won 33-10.
So the 2006 final was a repeat of the year before and it produced a thrilling climax. An extra-time try from captain Darren Lockyer proved the difference as Australia claimed the title back from New Zealand with a 16-12 victory at Sydney's Aussie Stadium.
Now you can witness explosive, world-class Rugby League action from three passionate and fiercely committed sides.
